When you are ready to tear yourself
away from the poker tables or slot machines, you might want to see a
little of what makes Las Vegas such a fascinating draw for millions.
Its entertainment options, aside from the shows (on previous page) are
endless.
Here are some in-town options. Check your map as you set out, or just
ask your hotel concierge.
Go shopping! Shopping possiblities are immense,
including souvenirs unique to Vegas, some tackier than most. As a major
tourist destination (or trap!), Vegas has all the major chain stores
you could possibly want (or not want). The Forum at Caesar's Palace, if
you are anywhere in the vicinity, has plenty of shopping, and most
hotels will have at least a small string of shops. For more shopping
options, visit http://www.vegas.com/shopping/
For some family-oriented activities, or if the girls
of the family go shopping, and the boys are at loose ends, Las Vegas
sports many types of thrill rides, for those staunch in nerves (like
the Manhattan Express at the New York, New York hotel), and a host of
other rides. Check this bewildering array: http://www.vegas.com/attractions/thrillrides.html
Remember, it is easy to buy a multi-ride or even multi-day pass on the
Las Vegas monorail. http://www.lvmonorail.com/
Consider a nature break and a visit to the Las Vegas
Zoo, just 15 minutes from the Strip, and in a shady 3-acre area.
Admission is very reasonable, and you can even get an internet coupon
off the site in advance of your visit. The zoo (unlike the casinos!)
has a conservation and education mission, and some rare species of
birds and other critters. Check http://www.lasvegaszoo.org/
for hours and to get your discount!
While "cultural mecca" does not come to mind when
one utters "Las Vegas," there are a few museums in the city when you
are ready for a quiet break. There is the Vegas Guggenheim, which has a
lovely, albeit small permanent collection. See http://www.guggenheimlasvegas.org/
The city is home to the Liberace musuem also. Liberace was the
quintessential showman-pianist, complete with the glittering tuxedos,
and a unique "entertainer-pianist." If you have a hankering to find out
more about museums, try

Try to find an Elvis impersonator! This is actually
somewhat of a career choice in Vegas. If you have never seen one in
action, you will be most entertained. If you are lucky, you might
chance on a happy hour with a performing Elvis. Or look at http://www.vegas.com/traveltips/guide/elvis.html
Finally, Las Vegas is a popular destination
for WEDDINGS, not just for the stars, but for anyone wanting a quick
and easy wedding, or a hitch with a difference. Wedding chapels will
take care of all the details, and you could really be married a little
on the wild side, with pictures of an Elvis impersonator and a helicopter
ride to boot! Interested? Curious? Get your information at http://www.vegas.com/weddings/
